The Gaian Chronicles is a tale of spirit and civilizations, individual attainment and social organizations.
In this sense, concepts that we might loosely call "political" are as important as those we might just as loosely call
"spiritual". The themes of social organization begin with Seeds of Heaven, but will be more richly and fully
developed in the books to come. Below are some ideas that will or already are a part of the epic.
Never again is a phrase that has been linked with the Holocaust of the Nazi
concentration camps. Terrible as that was, it was neither the first nor the last genocidal attack on a
people. In recent history it was preceded by the Turkish genocide of the Armenians and to a lesser degree by
the genocidal attacks of Mussolini and the Luftwaffe against the people of Ethiopia. The same camps that
attempted genocide against the Jewish people slaughtered a half million Romany and uncounted Eastern Europeans, not to
mention gays, the mentally challenged, and even the physically infirm. Since World War II the world has seen the massive
purges of Stalin, the killing fields of Cambodia, and a litany of other atrocities. Since Hiroshima, humanity has possessed
the same kind of self-destructive potential that Hister unleashes in Seeds of Heaven. Realizing what this means,
in terms of implications, responsibilities, and the potential for collective amnesia is the subject of this piece.
In the light of nuclear proliferation and even biological or chemical weapons, it is not idealism to insist on nations or
cultures that are Beyond War. It is simple common sense. This piece examines
what is needed to do this and how such nations and societies might coexist.
Back in the sixties, the Black Panthers popularized the slogan "Power to the People". More recently Patti Smith
affirmed "People have the power". Yet to a greater and greater degree, especially in the US, which is the oldest
modern democracy and seemingly should know better, people not only feel powerless but even willingly abdicate their
power to "leaders". In fact this "representative democracy" seems to have abandoned the concepts of representation and
public service in favor of "leaders" who "govern" at the bequest and in the service of special interests and power brokers,
including corporations and corporate alliances within industries especially. However, no government can survive without
the consent or at least the acquiesence of the governed. The Vox Populi or Voice of the People
is always and everywhere supreme, and especially so within a system, such as our own, which provides for its empowerment.
This article examines why this is so.
Gender Equality is a brief essay touching on the apparent spiritual roots of a profound problem,
culturally supported inequality of the sexes.
What it all comes down to ultimately is that this is properly Everyone's World. This is the
only genuinely rational view possible, and, bottom-line, the only genuinely functional one. Yet the increasing privatization
of all the earth's resource even to its airwaves and water creates a global culture of serfs and lords. This piece examines
what is going on, takes a stab at why, and surveys what hopeful currents continue to stir throughout the world.
Abstract contemplation can be wonderful, even ecstatic. But as Eldridge Cleaver...or actually his wife, Kathleen, said:
"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem". This article looks at
practical action.
Is homosexuality a disease or a lifestyle? Is it the result or nature or nuture?
Homosexuality and Transgender Identity examines the spiritual aspect of these questions.
