Seeds of Heaven embeds a number of spiritual concepts within its storyline, beginning with the
after death experiences of its protagonist, Seraphis, in the period between his own lifetimes, while on earth,
Atantis is destroyed and new societies and land masses emerge. These ideas aggregate into a coherent world view
with roots in Hinduism, esoteric Christianity, Theosophy, and other disciplines as well as the teachings of individuals
such as Edgar Cayce.
It is not the author's intention to promote any of these teachings as "the truth", nor to provide an alternative
source for in-depth spiritual understanding or growth. Instead the author feels that the incorporation of these
ideas into the tale deepens it and the world it evokes. If some of these ideas dovetail with the reader's own views
or experiences, so much the better. If they inspire further investigation for some, then the book will have more individual value
for these than as a simple tale. Nevertheless, the real point is to use them to enrich the story.
For those who are interested this section expands on some of these ideas:
- Yuga is one Sanskrit term for the orderly progression of the epochs of human cultures
from periods of enlightenment to ignorance and then back again based upon the grand 26,000 year orbit of the solar
system which accounts for the precession of the equinoxes.
- The Chakras are energy centers within the human body corresponding to specific ductless
glands (endrocrine) and nerve plexes and ganglia within the Western models. Several Far Eastern systems postulate hundreds or thousand
of chakras under different names. In the West (which here includes teachings indigenous Indian sub-continent, especially Hinduism)
the number is usually set at seven. Moving consciousness into the various chakras is said to "open" the chakra. Opening chakras
in a specific order (from bottom to top) is said to awaken kundalini, the serpent power, and is integral to some systems for
enligntenment.
- The Akashic Records figure prominently in the transcribed discourses of Edgar Cayce,
"the Sleeping Prophet" and seem to have first been postulated by the Theosophists. They are said to hold the entire contents
of historical events as a kind of cosmic Tivo or Internet Archives. In Seeds of Heaven the concept is used as a
narrative device to present historic overviews. In the article linked above, one possible explanation for the presumed existence
is developed.
- Reincarnation has become a widely accepted idea even among people whose
religious beliefs traditionally postulate a different model for life and death. In this article, various views
and explanations on reincarnation are discussed.
- The idea of Seven Heavens seems to be nearly universal within both world religions
and esoteric teachings. Dante speaks of seven heavens as does the Qu'ran and the Talmud. The author has considered
this commonality and offers his explanation in the cited article.
